78:21 Truly Hell is a place of ambush

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا

Truly, Hell is a place of ambush

On that Day there are only two destinations JAHANNAM OR JANNAH. Allah begins by mentioning Hell 1st because remember the context of this surah, this surah is refuting the claims of the disbelievers so it is befitting that it addresses them 1st. These next few verses serve as a  server warning and a threat to them (if you continue with your rebellion this will be your reward)

MIRSAAD comes from the verb RASADA. MURSAD is one who is trying to ambush. Allah describes Hell as MIRSAAD: [ISM MAKAN] a place ideal for ambush.

Hasan Al-Basri used this verse to explain: وَإِنْ مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا وَارِدُهَا And there is none of you except he will pass over it (Hell) [Maryam:71] We will get to experience what we have escaped. For the believers they will be able to pass by, but the disbelievers will be ambushed by it.

How should we conduct ourselves if we want to pass over the Siraat successfully and save ourselves from being ambushed by Hell? the verse continues ثُمَّ نُنَجِّي الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا Then We shall save those who use to have TAQWA (of Allah) [Mayram:72] Have Taqwa of Allah! By fulfilling All of His commands and abstaining from All His prohibitions etc
