Multiplication of deeds in Ramadan

Because Ramadan is of such a high status a month that is beloved to Allah,  acts of obedience during the month increase in virtue and earn a greatly multiplied reward, and the sin/ acts of disobedience during this month is greater and more serious than sins at other times (but are not multiplied).

There are reports from some of the salaf (early generations) which speak of the factor by which the reward is multiplied in Ramadan (they are reports that may be quoted but cannot be taken as evidence).

Ibn Abi ad-Dunya narrated in Fadaa’il Ramadan (p. 51) that az-Zuhri said: One tasbeeh (saying subhaanallah) in Ramadan is better than saying a thousand tasbeehs at other times.

Ibraheem An-Nakha‘i was a well-known scholar from among the taba’een and pupil of Abd-Allah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Fasting one day in Ramadan is better than fasting a thousand days, and saying tasbeeh in it is better than saying a thousand tasbeehs, and one rak‘ah in it is better than a thousand rak‘ahsLataa’if al-Ma‘aarif by Ibn Rajab (p. 151)

To understand this statement I have chosen 3 acts of worship to show you how the deeds are multiplied but of course in this month we should be worshiping Allah with as many different acts of worship as possible proprietiseing with the obligations then sunnah etc

Salah

As we know all acts of good are multiplied by Allah by a minimum of 10 times up to 700. So for example when we pray 1 Salah (prayer) Allah multiplies that for us a minimum 10 times so we get the reward for praying 10 prayers even though we have only prayed 1 Salah. The one who prays 5 daily prayers his reward is that of praying 50 salawaat (prayers).

These 50 prayers according to the statements of the salaf are 1000 times better in Ramadan, that means you will have the reward of 50 thousand prayers. Alhamdulilah how merciful is Allah? But guess what…

The Messenger of Allaah said: “Prayer in congregation is twenty-five times better than the prayer of one of you on his own.” According to another report: “twenty-seven times better.” Agreed upon.

That means if we pray all our 5 daily prayers in jamaa’ah (congregation) this will yield a reward of 50 Thousand x 25 = 1 million 2 hundred and 50 thousand rewards.

IN CASE our thinking no this is not possible! Can Allah reward me with this huge number when the act is so small? I remind you if Allah can reward a deed without a number such the reward of sabr then what is 1,000,000?  nothing! Allah’s rewards are endless and plentiful.

Quran

The salaf would dedicate this month to the recitation of the Quran morning evening and night.

Think about this The Prophet said “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.” Reported by al-Tirmidhi and al-Hakim – Sahih al-Jami’ (6469)

It is estimated that if each page of the Quran has 15 lines and each line has between 30-40 letters and each Juzz has 20 pages, then in each Juzz a reader will recite 10,000 letter. If each letter carries a minimum reward of 10 rewards the one who recites 1 Juzz earns a reward of 100,000 good deeds. .

However this reward is for outside of Ramadan. In Ramadan according to what we have said it is 1000 times better. That means the one who recites one Juzz in Ramadan earns a reward of 100,000 x 1000 = 1 hundred million.

Allahuakbar Let us draw close to Allah by drawing close to the Quran. How much time do we spend reading the Quran in Ramadan? Imam al-Dhahabi narrates that Qatadah, Would complete one Qur’an every seven days but when Ramadan would come he would complete one Qur’an every three days and in the last ten he would complete one every night.

Dua

From Ubadah bin as-Samit who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah saying: “Whoever sought forgiveness for believing men and believing women, Allaah writes a good deed for him for every believing man and woman.” [at-Tabrani]

This is an amazing Hadith. It teaches us that when you say for example, ‘O Allah forgive us’ intending by that to include every single Muslim on this earth you will get a reward for every single Muslim on this earth. And yes this reward is multiplied in Ramadan. Let us increase in our Dua for the Ummah.

Conclusion

My brothers the actual number with which Allah multiples the good deeds in this month whether it is less then 100 or is one thousand of if it is more Alhamdulilah it is sufficient to know Allah is Ash- Shakoor the one who is Most appreciative and the One who’s reward is most generous and he will always give more than we deserve. It is also easy to see if one has been slacking in other months how one can use this month to catch up from the rest of the year and perhaps redeem oneself from the hell fire.
